Godoy Cruz go clear, Estudiantes beaten

March 4, 2010

Unbeaten Godoy Cruz went one point clear at the top of Argentina's Clausura with a 2-1 win over Lanus on Wednesday night.

Striker Jairo Castillo put them ahead after 36 minutes but Santiago Salcedo hauled Lanus level in the 57th minute. However, Godoy Cruz, who were not expected to be among the championship's front-runners, moved decisively in front when midfielder Carlos Sanchez netted 17 minutes from the end.

Independiente lurk in second place after a 1-0 win away to Tigre, with Nestor Silvera getting the 57th-minute winner.

Argentinos beat Estudiantes 1-0 in the night's other match, with 39-year-old Jose Luis Calderon scoring after 33 minutes against his former club.
